Nègèbennan

Nègèbennan is an ode to resilience, translated into form by a layered construction of solid Amazakoué wood, a dense West African wood rarely seen in contemporary design. The bulges that distort its surface evoke the impacts that shape all human experience; the strata that contain them speak of the strengthening that comes with time and accumulated knowledge. Legs and bulges are lathe-turned, ensuring visual and structural continuity throughout.

Presented at the Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art 2024, which marked the return of design after sixteen years of absence, the piece stands between functional object and sculptural presence, anchoring collective memory in material.
